Uphold genuine Philippine independence! End 114 years of U.S. control of Philippine sovereignty!
Statement on the
occasion of Philippine Independence Day
11 June 2012
This Philippine “Independence Day,” BAYAN-Toronto,
Migrante-Canada, Anakbayan-Toronto, Gabriela, and our allies continue the fight
for true independence in the Philippines and against 114 years of US military
and economic intervention (with the support of its little brother
Canada).
We condemn the administration of President “Noynoy” Aquino for
continuing to cater to U.S. military and economic interests for both their
benefit, and of those from the Philippine ruling classes—at the expense of the wishes,
rights, and dignity of the majority of the Filipino people.

U.S. Troops Out of the Philippines! Stop the Balikatan Military Exercises!
BAYAN Canada Statement
US TROOPS OUT OF THE PHILIPPINES! STOP THE BALIKATAN MILITARY EXERCISES!
April 2012
BAYAN Canada vehemently opposes the Balikatan exercises to be held this April 16th to the 27th in the Philippines. Balikatan, meaning shoulder-to-shoulder, refers to joint military exercises between the US and Philippines. The Philippine government justifies these exercises as being based on the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) and the 14- year-old Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) between the two countries.

Film Showing: “Amigo” & Discussing Modern US Imperialism
BAYAN Canada in Toronto, Migrante Canada, Anakbayan Toronto, and GABRIELA Ontario, invite you to a FREE EVENT
Film Showing: “Amigo” & Discussing Modern US Imperialism
Sunday April 15, 2012
1:00-4:00pm
SEAS Centre (Gerrard and Broadview)
606 Gerrard, Toronto, ON
“Indie director John Sayles’ latest film, Amigo, revisits a little-known chapter of U.S. history: the 1899-1902 Philippine-American War. The movie traces the war’s impact on a small Filipino village where the mayor feels pressured to help Americans root out Filipino guerrillas, while harboring the knowledge that his own brother is a local guerrilla leader.”
We are showing this film as a way to open dialogue on the continued presence of American imperialism in the Philippines. The US has announced its intentions to increase it’s military presence in the Pacific, with the Philippines as a centrepiece in this strategic theatre.
